Aquaflow 32mm Waste Fittings — Solvent Weld Bends, Couplings, Tees and Branches for UK Plumbers
32mm solvent weld waste pipe is the standard for basin, vanity unit, and bidet drainage across the UK. Where 40mm handles bath and shower waste, 32mm is the go-to diameter for hand basin outlets — slim enough for tight under-sink runs, robust enough for daily commercial use. Aquaflow's 32mm range covers everything you need to complete a clean, compliant waste installation: bends, couplings, tee branches, socket plugs, and reducers to transition into 40mm or 50mm systems downstream.
This guide covers the core 32mm solvent weld fittings in stock at APM Electricals, with the practical details that matter on site.
Why 32mm Waste Pipe?
BS EN 1329-1 governs unplasticised PVC waste systems in the UK. For basin and bidet outlets, 32mm nominal bore pipe is the standard choice. It connects directly to the 1¼" (32mm) trap outlets found on most basins, and the compact diameter keeps under-sink cabinet space usable.
Aquaflow's 32mm range uses solvent weld jointing — the cement chemically fuses the fitting to the pipe, creating a watertight joint that doesn't rely on rubber ring seals. For concealed runs inside vanity units or within stud walls, solvent weld is the preferred method: no risk of ring displacement, no joint creep, and a finished OD slim enough to route through 35mm holes.
The range is available in black, grey, and white to match common basin and pedestal finishes. Black is typically used for concealed commercial installations; grey and white suit visible domestic pipework.
32mm Waste Fitting Types — What's in the Aquaflow Range
Knuckle Bends (90° and 135°)
Knuckle bends give a tight directional change — useful where the waste outlet drops straight from the basin trap and you need to redirect horizontally to the soil stack or gulley. The 90° knuckle bend is the most commonly specified; the 135° gives a gentler change of direction for longer horizontal runs.
Available in black, grey, and white. All fittings include a solvent weld socket on both ends.
Straight Couplings
Used to extend runs or join two pipe lengths. Essential when a pre-cut length falls short or when jointing around a structural obstacle. The plain socket coupling is the most common 32mm fitting on any van.
Tee Branches (92°)
The 32mm tee branch allows two basin waste runs to combine into a single outlet. Typical in ensuite bathrooms where twin basins share a common waste run before dropping to the trap. The 92° angle keeps flow velocity and self-cleansing action consistent.
Pushfit Socket Plugs
A pushfit socket plug temporarily or permanently blanks an open socket end. Used during first-fix when an outlet is roughed in but the appliance isn't yet fitted, or as a permanent cap on redundant connection points. The pushfit design allows removal without disturbing cemented joints — a useful distinction from solvent-welded access plugs.
Access Plugs with Screw Cap
The access plug with screw cap is a permanent fitting with a removable centre for rodding access. Required by Building Regulations (Approved Document H) at inspection points on long waste runs and at changes of direction where access for clearing blockages is needed. Available in black, grey, and white, with the screw cap removable by a flat blade screwdriver.
Reducing Fittings (40mm × 32mm)
Where 32mm basin waste runs connect into 40mm bath or shower waste before reaching the stack, a 40×32mm reducer makes the transition. Available in solvent weld (the most common), compression, and grey or white to match downstream pipework colour.
Installation Notes
- Pipe preparation: Cut square, deburr inside and outside, and chamfer the pipe end slightly to aid seating into the socket without displacing solvent cement.
- Solvent cement: Use ABS/MUPVC solvent cement (typically orange tin — Floplast SC100 or equivalent). Apply to both the pipe OD and fitting socket. Push home and hold for 30 seconds. Wipe surplus cement immediately.
- Cure time: Allow 15 minutes before moving the assembly; 24 hours before pressure testing or water contact in cold conditions.
- Fall: BS EN 12056-2 recommends a minimum 1:48 fall (20mm per metre) for 32mm waste branch pipes up to 1.7m from trap to stack. Reduce falls below this and the water outruns the solids; exceed 1:12 and the water moves too fast, breaking the trap seal.
- Maximum branch length: For a 32mm branch without ventilation, the maximum unventilated run is 1.7m from the trap weir to the stack centreline. Runs beyond this require AAVs or full venting to prevent siphonage.
