Soldering Tips for End Feed Fittings

• Clean thoroughly — wire wool or emery cloth inside the socket and outside the pipe until bright. Any oxidation or flux contamination stops capillary flow.
• Use the right flux — apply a thin, even coat of flux paste to both the pipe end and the inside of the socket before assembly.
• Heat the fitting, not the solder — hold the flame on the body of the fitting. Touch solder to the joint gap; it should be drawn in by capillary action. Move heat around the joint for an even fill.
• Wipe before it sets — a damp rag wiped over the joint while still hot cleans excess flux and solder for a neat finish.
• Pressure test — always pressure-test the system before concealing pipework or fitting valves.
