For rooms where two independent lighting circuits need dimming from a single plate — a main ceiling circuit and a reading or accent circuit, for example — the 2-gang intelligent dimmer delivers individual rotary control for each channel. Polished chrome screwless flat plate gives a premium, mirror-like finish that suits higher specification residential and hospitality projects. Each gang carries the same 5–150 W LED rating with anti-flicker circuitry, overload protection and push on/off convenience. Compatible with the majority of dimmable GU10 lamps and integrated LED downlights.
- Load per gang: 10–200 W incandescent / 5–150 W LED
- 2-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer — independent rotary control per gang
- Anti-flicker technology and overload protection
- Switchable leading/trailing edge mode
- Polished chrome screwless flat plate

Knightsbridge 3G 2-Way 10-200W Intelligent Dimmer Flat Plate — Brushed Chrome
£48.99 inc VAT
Open-plan living spaces and kitchen-diner-lounge layouts often require three separate lighting zones — pendants over an island, recessed downlights across a ceiling zone, and soffit or pelmet LED strips — all controlled from one elegant plate at the door. The 3-gang intelligent dimmer handles each circuit independently with individual rotary push on/off controls, 5–150 W LED load rating per gang, and the same anti-flicker and switchable edge circuitry as the single-gang models. Brushed chrome square-edge flat plate blends effortlessly into contemporary interiors and matches the rest of the Knightsbridge flat plate range so you can coordinate your whole wiring accessories fit.
- Load per gang: 10–200 W incandescent / 5–150 W LED
- 3-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer — independent control per gang
- Anti-flicker technology for LED compatibility
- Switchable leading/trailing edge mode
- Brushed chrome square-edge flat plate

Choosing the Right Knightsbridge Dimmer Switch
Leading Edge vs Intelligent (Trailing Edge) — What's the Difference?
Leading edge dimmers were designed for resistive and inductive loads — incandescent and halogen lamps — where a high inrush current is expected. They work by chopping the front of each AC half-cycle. Many older leading edge dimmers cause LED drivers to flicker, hum, or refuse to dim at low levels. They are, however, the cheapest option and still perfectly adequate if your LED lamp manufacturer confirms leading edge compatibility.
Knightsbridge intelligent dimmers (also described as switchable or universal edge) operate in trailing edge mode by default, which is correct for the capacitive loads inside most LED drivers. Anti-flicker circuitry smooths the output further. They can also be switched to leading edge mode where required. For new LED installations, the intelligent series is the professional choice — it costs a few pounds more but eliminates callbacks from unhappy clients with flickering lights.
How Many Gangs Do You Need?
A single-gang dimmer controls one circuit. Two-gang, three-gang and four-gang plates allow multiple circuits to be controlled from the same wall position. In practice:
- 1G — single room circuit, most bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways
- 2G — two circuits at one switch point, e.g. ceiling downlights and wall lights in a living room
- 3G — open-plan areas with multiple zones, e.g. kitchen island, dining area and lounge downlights
- 4G — large spaces or home cinema rooms where four independent lighting circuits meet at one switching point
Each gang is independently controlled and rated in the Knightsbridge range, so you're not splitting the total load across the gangs — each gang has its own full 5–150 W LED rating.
Wattage and LED Load Ratings
Calculating the minimum and maximum load for a dimmer circuit is important. Add up the total wattage of all lamps on the circuit and ensure the sum falls within the dimmer's LED rating window. For example, six 6 W GU10 lamps on one circuit totals 36 W — comfortably within the 5–150 W window on any Knightsbridge intelligent dimmer. Where installations use very low wattage LED lamps (under 5 W total), check the dimmer's minimum load figure or consider a trailing edge dimmer with a wider low-end tolerance.
The 40–400 W leading edge models are better suited to circuits carrying a higher number of lamps or larger LED drivers where total load exceeds the intelligent series maximum of 150 W LED.
2-Way and Intermediate Wiring
All Knightsbridge dimmers in this range support 2-way operation, meaning the dimmer can be paired with a standard 2-way switch at another point in the circuit (for example, at both ends of a hallway or staircase). The dimmer always controls the dim level; the secondary switch toggles the circuit on and off. For intermediate switching (three or more switching points on one circuit), an intermediate switch module is required at each intermediate position — the dimmers themselves do not incorporate intermediate switching.
Finish Options
Knightsbridge intelligent dimmers are available in five finishes to match the rest of the Knightsbridge flat plate wiring accessories range:
- Matt White — clean, minimal; suits new-build and painted plaster finishes
- Brushed Chrome — warm metallic; the most popular specification finish for kitchens and living rooms
- Polished Chrome — mirror finish; suits high-spec residential and hospitality
- Polished Brass — traditional look for period properties
- Anthracite — dark grey metallic; contemporary industrial and Scandi-influenced interiors
Coordinating your dimmer switches, single-pole switches, sockets and USB outlets across the same Knightsbridge range and finish gives a unified appearance that clients notice and remember.
Back Box Requirements
Knightsbridge flat plate dimmers fit standard 86 × 86 mm single-gang back boxes or 146 × 86 mm double-gang back boxes for 2-gang and above. A minimum 35 mm depth back box is recommended for dimmers with the internal circuitry of the intelligent series — check available depth in solid masonry or within cavity wall dry-lining before selecting a shallow box.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Knightsbridge dimmers compatible with all LED lamps?
Knightsbridge intelligent dimmers are compatible with the majority of dimmable LED lamps rated 5–150 W (aggregate LED load). Always confirm that the LED lamp is rated as dimmable before installation. Non-dimmable LED lamps will not dim and may be damaged if connected to a dimmer circuit.
Can I use a Knightsbridge dimmer with GU10 LED spotlights?
Yes. The intelligent series is engineered to work with dimmable GU10 LED lamps including the Integral Evofire fire-rated GU10s and other standard retrofit GU10s. Trailing edge mode with anti-flicker circuitry is the correct mode for capacitive LED drivers used in GU10 lamps. See our 1G Intelligent Dimmer Brushed Chrome for single-circuit GU10 installations.
What is the difference between leading and trailing edge dimming for LEDs?
Leading edge dimmers chop the rising edge of the AC wave, which can clash with the switching frequencies inside LED drivers, causing flicker or hum. Trailing edge dimmers chop the falling edge, which is compatible with the capacitive loads in LED drivers. Most modern dimmable LEDs are designed for trailing edge control, which is why Knightsbridge intelligent dimmers default to trailing edge mode.
Do Knightsbridge dimmers require a neutral wire?
No. Like most standard UK plate dimmers, Knightsbridge leading edge and intelligent dimmers work with a standard 2-wire (switched live and earth) installation and do not require a neutral wire at the switch position. This makes them straightforward replacements for existing dimmers or switches in older wiring.
Can I fit two Knightsbridge dimmer modules on a double-gang plate?
Knightsbridge multi-gang dimmers (2G, 3G, 4G) are supplied as complete units with all gangs on a single plate — they are not assembled from individual dimmer modules at site. This ensures clean wiring behind the plate and a factory-quality appearance. If you need a mix of a dimmer and a standard switch on the same plate, the Knightsbridge switch module range allows combinations to be assembled on grid plates.
